The Eighteenth Year

Champion Tourney -- Sunset Shire
November 5, 1983 (AS XVIII)

From The Page (November, 1983):

SUNSET SHIRE will hold its CHAMPION TOURNEY on November 5, on the same hilltop field we used last year, weather permitting, and road conditions usable. If not, we do have a backup site in the early tradition of the Society, a fair-sized back yard.

There willb e the traditional list to determine a fighting champion (as we have no authorized fighters, our championship is up for grabs). Again, as last year, there will be five categories of weapons, and a fighter's weapon(s) for any given fight will be determined by the cast of a lot (or die) at the Lists table.

There will also be contests for noncombatants, ladies, and children. Among others, there will be a cooking contest, the category being Pumpkin anything but pie. Lord Dragon the Green anticipates attending, and the good Dragon is willing to put up with another scale collecting contest.

The after-tourney revel will be held at the home of Richard of Willowood, (address omitted). This will be a potluck revel, with a main course made available by the Shire. There will also be a competition at the revel to determine the "Official Brew" of the Shire. This will be a judging of domestic beers locally available and nominated by shire members. Judges are neede! Judgeships are available for two containers, unopened, 11 oz minimum, of your favorite commercial brew -- and providing yourself with a driver.

A limited amount of sleeping space will be available. Advance notice of any known need would be loved.

For further information or help, etc., please contact one of the co-autocrats, James the Fisher (phone), or Richard of Willowood (phone).
