The Eighteenth Year

Purgatorio Coronation
August 20-21, 1983 (AS XVIII)

From The Page (August, 1983):

PURGATORIO IN THE PINES --- The Province of the Silver Desert will host the Coronation of Rolf and Lachlin on 20-21 August at the Dog Valley campsite near Verdi, Nevada.

The site will open for setup Friday afternoon. On Saturday there will be a morning Court, then a lunch break, followed by Coronation, after that the Pandy Bat competition and a Period Prize list. At 10am Sunday will commence the Queen's Champion list (mixed weapons).

Site information: Remember that this is the Sierras -- high altitude (c 5000 ft), and temperature drops of 30-40° at night. Bring appropriate night gear. Please keep dogs and children away from the squirrels: there is a possibility of Plague [carrying authenticity a little too far]. The site feel will be $2. No open fires will be allowed except in established fire pits.

Reno is only 20 min from Verdi. If you are going in for supplies, take the Keystone exit. There are gas stations, two supermarkets, and a large liquor store right off the freeway.

EVENTS: The last round of the Arts & Sciences championship will be held. The contests are: (Sciences) Lighting, Brewing of Cordials and Liqueurs, Period Timepieces; (Arts) Dancing, Musical Instrument Making, Embellished Cloth. The Arts & Sciences special category will also be run -- no preparation required.

There will be an on-site embroidery contest sponsored by the Needleworkers Guild. Obtain materials from Jania of Call Duck Manor by noon Saturday, and return for judging by noon Sunday.

The Wooden Spoon competition will be for fast-curing cheeses.

Any archers wishing to shoot a Royal Round are welcome to do so, and there may be some combat archery as well.

The Equestrian Guild is raffling off a beautiful Witcher harp again this year. Tickets are $1 from Henrik of Havn (contact info omitted), or at the site.
