From The Page (April, 1983):
THE PROVINCE OF GOLDEN RIVERS will host its first Annual Championship Tourney on 16 April, Saturday, at an as-yet-undetermined site in the Sacramento area. Visitors who need site information should telephone the seneschale, Baroness Brighid ni Roane, at (phone), before 10:30 pm please. Activities at this event will include many impromptu & extemporaneous as well as planned competitions, include, we hope, a William Tell Archery contest. The main event, of course, will be the Golden Rivers Championship Lists, to determine the Champion of Golden Rivers -- and his or her companion -- for Anno Societatis XVIII. The Championship Lists will be limited to fighters residing in Golden Rivers, but challenges and melees throughout the day will be open to all. Signups and armor inspection will begin at 10 am.
Autocrats of this event are Michael Hugh of Stuarts (phone), and Rodrigo de Cerdaña (phone). The lists will be a standard double-elimination with weapons restricted by round; that is, a fighter must fight one round with a short weapon, one with a long weapon, one with double weapons, one with sword-and-shield, etc. It is likely that Golden Rivers may ask for site fee donations at the gate. Visitors desiring accomodations for that night should telephone our seneschale several days in advance.
Anyone who wishes to sponsor a contest at this event is most welcome to do so, and should contact Viscountess Gwendolyn the Silent, (phone). Sponsoring a contest means: designing the rules, nominatinig the judges, supplying the equipment (if any is needed), and providing a prize (if you wish).
