From The Page (October, 1982):
The Ducal Grand Prize Tournament to benefit the Land Fund of the Kingdom of the West will be held this year on October 23 & 24 in Orangevale Park in Golden Rivers. Many diverse and exciting competitions will be held with wonderous prizes for the winners! There will also be held an auction of marvelous wares donated by artisans throughout the Kingdom! All entry fees for the competitions and proceeds from the auction go to the Land Fund, so bring ye all full purses and plan to give freely to our cause!
Many competitions have been scheduled already. Those which will need advance preparation are as follows:
Singing - an original song in medieval style
Dancing - basic dances plus one of your own specialty (please bring your own music for the specialty dance).
Photography - capture the spirit of the SCA: a recent photo which expresses an aspect of our group (these will be kept by the Trustees to use if necessary as part of our grant packate).
Armigerous Award Scroll - any completed scroll for arms not yet presented or turned in to the heralds.
First Award Scroll - first scroll for an award done by a warranted scribe and not yet presented or turned in to the heralds.
There will be many fighting events, too, where fighters may be "auctioned" to a non-fighter; if the fighter wins, his "buyer" will receive the prize!
If you are interested in sponsoring a competition (provide the prize and run the competition at the tourney) or in donating to the auction, please contact Duchess Verena at (phone) or write to Helmsgaard, (address omitted).
The tourney site is Orangevale Park, just outside of Sacramento. The site will be open for setup on Friday at 1pm. There will be a site fee of $1.00 per person.
The site autocrat is Tricia of Wetherford who can be reached at (phone) for information regarding the site. For information about the tourney, contact Duchess Verena.
Many thanks to the Principality of Cynagua who is sponsoring this tournament so that it can be an official SCA event.
