From The Page (March, 1982):
The Barony of Westermark will be holding its April Fool Anniversary Tournament on Saturday, April 3, 1982 at Pine Lake Park in the Province of St. Andrew. (Yes, St. Andrew) The gates will open at 10:00 am as will the lists. A Baronial Court will begin at 12:00 noon with the fighting to begin immediately thereafter.
Featured at this tournament will be the Weird weapons list. This event should hold many surprisees. Standard broadsword and shield, double broadswords, and naginata will not be allowed. Possible combinations could be axe and sword, mace and shield, broadsword and shortsword, etc. Those of us who specialize in an "odd" weapons combination should use a different combination for this list. Important: certain conventions and limitations will not be revealed until the list sign up, Baronial Court, and maybe even the first fight!
Be prepared for anything, warriors. This is a real switch from what most of us are used to. To make the whole thing worth while ... the winner will receive a pole of rattan and a roll of duct tape. There will also be various melees and challenge fights.
There will be non-fighting amusements and a war banner/pennant competition. The war banner or pennant must have been carried into battle or will be carried at an upcoming war.
And now to answer the question "Whats the Barony of Westermark doing a tournament in St. Andrew for?" With the many Shires, Provinces and such growing up within the Principality of the Mists, getting Calendar space will become more difficult. We (Westermark) wanted a April Fool's Tourney but the closest free date was in May. St. Andrew was having an evening revel on the day we wanted. The answer was simple and the Seneschal of St. Andrew was most gracious in allowing us to possess Pine Lake Park for a few hours. At the closing Baronial Court the winners will be annouced, the land given back to St. Andrew, and maps will be given out for the St. Andrew April Fool Revel. Thus everyone gets what they wanted. It is my hope that this will spark new interest in cooperative events other than wars.
