From The Page (February, 1981):
The Province of Golden Rivers announces and invites all to attend its annual Valentine Revel to be held Saturday, February 14 at Crawford's Barn in Sacramento. There is a kitchen available for warming foods and indoor "facilities".
Basket Auction: The ladies should prepare a dinner pleasing to both the eye and palate and arrange it in a basket or similar container (baskets will be returned after the dinner). These will then be placed upon the auction block before the ravenous lords of our lands. The identity of the lady-ladies who prepared the dinner will be kept secret until the auction is completed. The lady-ladies will then join the lord who purchased their basket for dinner. (Ladies: Please include a written description of the contents of your basket and how many it will serve - be creative!)
Favors Auction: The lords should prepare a favor of some sort to be auctioned to the ladies. These can be most anything that will appeal to a lady.
The theme will again be games - a men's legs contest (wear black tights if possible), a lady's ankle contest, a King and Queen of hearts, fortune telling, dancing, etcetera! A Court of Love will also be held.
The doors to the Barn will slide open at 4:30 with the Basket Auction beginning promptly at 6:00. Anyone with questions or anyone interested in providing entertainment should contact either Brighid ni Roane (phone) or Anastasia (phone).
Description of this event (if any), taken from The Page, or from memory of at least one person who attended the event.
