The household and incipient Shire of Appledore is hosting a Prize Tourney and Archery Competition to be held September 13 and 14 in Kelowna, B.C., to publicize its formation.
The Tourney will feature prizes for the two most valiant fighters, and the archery contests will have prizes for the best Royal Round shot by a Lord, and by a Lady, as well as a Match Competition and a William Tell contest. A potluck feast will be held on Saturday evening, with a Bardic Circle to follow.
Contests will include: BEST RENDITION OF THE LAKE MONSTER (in any medium, from poem to paint); POEM OR SONG IN PRAISE OF APPLES or their product - prize to be a case of cider; BEST DISH USING APPLES AS A MAIN INGREDIENT; JEU DE BOULS TOURNEY.
The tourney site is a private orchard with facilities for camping including outdoor toilets, a cold shower, and cold water, with areas for campfires. Weather at this time of year is generally hot (low 80's) and dry, and the apple harvest will just be starting.
Set-up Friday after noon, or Saturday morning. Lists close 11 am Saturday, opening court at 11:30. Tourney begins at noon, and will break for an hour at 2 p.m. for the Archery Match Competition. Potluck feast at 6:30 Saturday. Sunday opening court at 10 a.m., followed by the William Tell contest, teh Jeu de Bouls Tourney, and the contest judging. Closing court at 2 p.m. latest.
