Why I Love the SCA

Lyrics by Emma Westbrook, 2006
(for Gottfried, Gilbert & Feargus – Spring Coronet 2006)

(To the Tune of LDS Hymn: The Iron Rod)

I witnessed service gladly given,
By one I barely knew.
He came and helped my family
And so our friendship grew.

The SCA, why do I play this game?  ‘Tis for the courtesy.
I see deeds wondrous every day!  This is the life for me.

I watched two men in battle vie
“The strike went wrong” one said,
“Now get up and let’s fight again
For you’re not really dead.”

The SCA, why do I play this game?  ‘Tis for the chivalry.
I see deeds wondrous every day!  This is the life for me.

I saw a fighter strong and hale Leading his fair consort And as he looked upon her face Was moved to tears in court.

The SCA, why do I play this game?  ‘Tis for the love, you see.
I see deeds wondrous every day!  This is the life for me.
