The Knighting

Lyrics by Emma Westbrook

(To the Tune of LDS Hymn: 'Tis Sweet to Sing the Matchless Love)

A warrior comes to court this day
But simply clad in tunic white.
His friends declare his chivalry --
That he deserves to be a knight.

Chorus:
Is there a belt?  Is there a chain?
Will someone stand to laud his name?
Are there some spurs?  Is there a sword?
Is he prepared to heed his lord?

He kneels before his sovereign king
And looks with trust upon his face –
Submits himself to what he will
For honor brings him to this place.

(chorus)

His Majesty delivers then
With not a hint of gentleness –
A buffet strong, that it may be
The last received without redress.

(chorus)

And now at last the deed is done.
We hear him swear his fealty –
To serve his kingdom and his lord
For truly now a knight is he.

(chorus)
