Stephen of Beckenham's Duke Scroll,
by Tatiana Nikolaevna Tumanova
"The first of several 'leopard' scrolls. It has a very limited color
scheme, mostly black and gold, but in this case it works. The red seals
(applied after this photo was taken) livened it up some. This is a
standard two-part composition, where the layout is divided in half
vertically. The pictures on the left are balanced by the heavy block
of text on the right. Were I doing it over again, a would move the
leopard's face down a bit lower, move the shield up a bit higher, and
use mantling that was not quite so ribbon-like and had more weight.
There was a bit too much white space between the illuminated letter and
the Arms, which I attempted to make better by lengthening the leopard's
whiskers." -- Tatiana
