"This is the original layout for the scroll and the Tarot card which inspired it. The original composition retained the curtain between the two pillars of Justice; the recipient's Arms would have been on the drapery, held up in the middle by a laurel wreath. The coronet on the seated figure would be replaced by a cap of maintenance. After looking at this for a time, the curtain was scrapped in favor of a landscape -- the Arms were removed from the miniature and moved to two roundels embedded in the large letter B. Likewise the laurel wreath vanished from the background and instead each set of the Arms is encircled by a laurel wreath.
