The Malachite Casket Scroll

"And here's the finished "Russian lacquer box" scroll. The entire thing took approx. 150 hours spread out over two and a half months. Now you know why I only produce one or two scrolls a year, if that!

"At an hourly wage of $50, that's one expensive document and it doesn't include the cost of materials. But then, all of us in the SCA spend a lot one way or another on this medieval hobby, don't we?

"There was yet more work to be done. I had to acquire the signatures of the King, Queen, and Vesper Herald, and present the scroll to the Chancellor of the College of Scribes for sealing, but that's another story..." -- Tatiana Nikolaevna Tumanova
