Final Calligraphy.
Once again, guidelines are ruled in. The arms, laurel wreath, and motto scroll are
traced into the layout. The text is penciled in, in its entirely, and it
looks like it'll all go. Something nags at me as I read through the text one last
time. All the words there? Yes. Anything left out? No. Anything
misspelled? Well -- maybe I'd better check the spelling of the names of
the Royalty, just to be sure. I think that's how Ginevra spells her
name -- isn't it? A quick check in the back of The Page shows that
yes, it's spelled right. Holy bleep! I've been doing Hauoc's name
wrong! Thank God I checked!
To protect the surface, I use tape paper over the lower half of the scroll; I'll want to safeguard the calligraphy when I'm painting. But for now, I flip the paper up and tape it down so the upper half of the scroll is protected from any errant ink blots.
In one session, I sit down and letter the entire text. Mercifully, the phone doesn't ring until two minutes after I've set the pen down for the last time and am sitting there massaging the cramp out of my right hand.
