Transferring the Design
Once the design is firmed up on the tracing paper, it's transferred onto the actual paper. Because the
paper (illustration board, actually) was black, in this case a white colored pencil was used in the transfer.
Margin were lightly drawn onto the illustration board with an HB pencil (a pencil with lead that is not too hard nor too soft), tick marks were made along the sides to indicate the four divisions of the piece, and a line was also drawn down the middle for centering purposes.
The tracing paper was placed face down on a piece of scratch paper, centered, and the design was gone over with scribbles of the white pencil. Then the tracing paper was placed, face up, over the piece of illustration board and the lines gone over again with an HB pencil. When the tracing paper is lifted up, there's the design in a white outline, as seen here. I also transferred the arched bottom edge of the design for a guideline later. -- Tatiana Nikolaevna Tumanova
