Aja du Jardin, Laurel Scroll Calligraphy and Illumination by Eliška z Jihlavy
by Eliška z Jihlavy |
"Based on the Visconti Hours, on pergamenata with Higgins
Black Magic, gouache and gold leaf.
This scroll was meant to be a personal gift to my long time
mentor on the occassion of her elevation, since she originally
planned to create her own scroll. When she found out about this
one, she decided to let me have the assignment, much to my
panic! It's the first peerage scroll I'd done, and was far too
ambitious for my timeline (3 weeks) and the fact that I was
basically flying solo, trying to surprise her.
The badges around the left page are the West Kingdom populace
badge, the badge from House Havn (of which Aja is a longtime
member), the College of Scribes badge, and the shire device for
Caldarium. The supporters for her lozenge are Justice and
Fortitude, also taken from Visconti. The three cartouches on
the right page are a reference to Persian scribal art, for which
Aja was Laureled.
Because I hadn't meant this to be an "official" scroll, I never
left room for the heralds to sign and seal, and [had] to squeeze that
in later..." -- Eliška z Jihlavy
