In Memoriam

Lady Rhiannan Lowery, ORL, OLM, Baroness

Sable, semy of thistles,
slipped and leaved,
a lynx couchant to sinister
Cindy Bonner died due to a blood clot, January 13, 2007.

Rhiannan Lowery was a member of the Orders of the Rose Leaf and the Leaf of Merit, was a Baroness of the Court of the West, was given two Queen's Cyphers, was a member of Cynagua's Orders of La Courtesia and The Friendly Castle, as well as having been given two Princess' Tokens during her time in the SCA.

"Rhiannan Lowrey, Wylowen's wife and Mistress Seelie's apprentice, died Saturday afternoon. Wilowen told Seelie it was a blood clot, possibly related to the problems she was having with her right leg (those of you who attended Twelfth Night will have seen her in a wheelchair). No details on services, etc., yet.

"Rhiannan was a very talented and kind lady, and had been doing great things to revive the shire of Mountain's Gate in the past couple of years. Besides that, Marren, Rhiannan and Wil's only child, is a Senior in High School right now, and losing her mother at this point will make all this even harder.

"Rhiannan had another daughter from a previous marriage whose name and whereabouts I don't know.

"Seelie is on her way to the house now, and will probably be staying with friends in Cameron Park tonight.

"My thoughts today are on Rhiannan's family, for Lady Cordelia Toser, who has known the family for more than 18 years and was very close to them, and also for Mistress Seelie, who has lost two apprentices in less than a year -- Mistress Halima in April, and now Rhiannon. Please hold them all in your thoughts." -- Siobhan Medhbh O'Roarke

"A little more details on Rhiannan: she told me that in October they found malignant cancer in her leg. They had found it pritty quick, but it was very agressive cancer. After intensive surgery and treatments, she was just starting to be allowed out of bed again and had finally been allowed to start trying to walk again the week before 12th Night. Things had been looking up and she seemed to be out of danger at that point ... Saturday she had the blood clot.

"I will miss Rhiannan very much. She was a spot of sunshine and a dear friend for many years." -- Collette de Rayncheval

"I knew Rhiannan for a very long time. She was one of the founders of Betony Wood and also along with myself, Mistress Tashi and Carol O'Fury, one of the original members/founders of the Cynaguan Herbalist Guild.

"This woman knew more about natural dyes and textiles in her little finger than most books and she was always sending me wonderful articles on this. She taught at our first Herbalist Collegium and was going to again until we had to cancel. She was the first and only Chronicler the guild ever had. She named the news letter "The Vessel with the Pestle" (a humorous take off from the Court Jester).

"Funny, smart, endearing, talented and woman of strong character All this described Rhiannon. There will be a very large void, where she used to be in the SCA, the herbalist community and the mundane world. She will be sorely missed." -- Aricia Jehane Deveraux
