History: This branch has a long history, dating back to October of AS IV (1969). According to an entry in the History by Wilhelm von Schlüssel, Golden Rivers was originally the Province of Llyd, and petitioned in March of AS V (1971), were granted a change to Barony and a name change to Golden Rivers. There is very little info. The link is here: Golden Rivers ....

Location: Sacramento, California

Barons and Baronesses of Golden Rivers:

1978ish-- Barony converted to Province --

Wilhelm von Schlüssel's original History of the West includes: Barony of Golden Rivers.

From an email by Patrice di Coeur Fidel:

"Founding Baron and Baroness were David and Cheryl of Castlewhyte (David and Cheryl White). He was also the original Seneschal until they were made B&B. They lasted approximately a year, but he worked on weekends, so it became increasing difficult for them to get to events.

Then Kevin [Perigrynne] and I were named in 1974/5. About four years later, we knew we were going to be moving back out of town and searched for a successor. Everyone qualified, and a few others, had the intelligence to say not only no, but Hell no. Except one wonderful lady who just couldn't face the idea of sitting up there and having everyone looking at her, but said that it made her whole life just to be asked. She would have done a great job, but it was not to be.

At the same time they were discussing the particulars of the Principality and picking a name. Having a B&B and P&P over the same lands was redundant at best. And reducing the lands to just Golden Rivers wasn't what anyone wanted, either. That's when the idea of a Province was brought forth and eventually adopted.

We stepped down at GRAB in 1978. Their first Coronet was less than a year later." -- Patrice di Coeur Fidel

From a post on Facebook by Kevin Peregrynne:

"The Barony of Golden Rivers was officially chartered and David and Cheryl invested as founding Baron and Baroness at Twelfth Night Coronation January 5th AS VII (1974).

A few months into AS VIII, James and Verena appointed Patrice and I (despite strong feelings of reluctance on our part) to succeed David and Cheryl - when time and economics forced them to retire from active SCA participation. Patrice and I had only emigrated to the Shire of Golden Rivers the previous July (1973) and were worried that our accession to the coronet would be seen by Golden Rivers' natives as usurpation by out of town carpetbaggers.

A few years later (1978?), when Cynagua was on the verge of being confirmed by the Crown as a Principality, Patrice and I (for mundane reasons) were in the process of relocation back to the Province of the Mists. [Patrice' description of the process of deciding to end the Barony in favor of becoming a province is spot-on]. The deed was accomplished with great panache at Golden Rivers Anniversary when the coronets were placed on a shield and cloven by King James' sword blows. (The coronets were symbolic stand-ins; Patrice and my original ones had already become the foundations of our Earl and Countess coronets)." -- Kevin Peregrynne
