For Hauoc and Maren
by
Torvald Torgarson
May, AS XXVIII

The mighty of the land had come
crown and torc displayed
Many stepped onto the field
and on it many laid
But honor served all those who fell
and honor those who won
Till at the end decision made
when set the Western Sun

The banner dances in the wind
as Hauoc steps on the field
The banner dances in the wind
that ground he will not yield

The swan like grace his Lady gave
was strength unto his hand
His sword it blazed a brilliant light
as if a fiery brand
And Maerin’s honor outshone the sun
unto her champion’s eye
A throne he’d win and place her on
and raise her favor high

The banner dances in the wind
as Hauoc steps on the field
The banner dances in the wind
that ground he will not yield

The Sable Swan it floats above
its wings are spread to shade
The noble thrones its children sit
its Avatars displayed
Hauoc and Maerin, Cynagua rule
and bear the Black Swan’s crest
Examples of grace and honor
to Cynagua and the West.

The banner dances in the wind
as Hauoc steps on the field
The banner dances in the wind
that ground he will not yield

This Cynaguan Spring Coronet was very overcast and windy, and later became very wet. But the image of the West Kingdoms banner snapping in the sky (from a position of flat on my back after loosing a fight to Vincensio de Collabria) inspired this work. I did not get to witness the finals since I was in the hospital after being knocked out (literally) in the third round. -- Torvald
