Prince Geoffrey of the Mists
by
Torvald Torgarson
September, 1983 (AS XVII)

From all across the land called Mists
    the valiant fighters come
In shining armor, sword, and shield
they seek the throne all one
And now they stand upon the field
and gaze up at the sky
The Griffin lands with wings ablaze
a light shines in his eye

So fights the griffin round and round
    upon the field now red
So fights the griffin round and round
    until his foes are dead

One by one the fighters try
their skill and blade wise might
Yet every time the Griffin wins
    prancing, dancing light
Until there stand but only one
    between him and the throne
There stands the wolf with teeth now bared
who claims them as his own

So fights the griffin round and round
    upon the field now red
So fights the griffin round and round
    until his foes are dead

The Griffin sits upon the throne
his wings are wreathed in mist
Silver rests upon his brow
    a scepter in his fist
There is no doubt to all the people
    gathered here who’s prince
It is our valiant Griffin
    Prince Geoffrey of the Mists

This poem was written in Honor of Geoffrey of Griffinhold’s victory in the Coronet over Sir Wulf Sagen von Ostensee. The theme of his Investiture was heraldic beasts, and I took my inspiration from the image of the griffin and wolf. -- Torvald
