The Lady's Thoughts
by
Tatiana Nikolaevna Tumanova
A.S. XXXI (1997)

Once I watched you as you picked up a shield and your arm would quickly fail
Then it hardly took a flurry of blows before you began to pale
And you thought you would always fail
Years of struggle as you practiced your craft, beneath the white beltís eye
Sweat and blood and tears and bruises and pain but you would not let it lie
For your hopes and your dreams were high [and]

     Chorus:
You have my faith, for you are my own trusted lord
     And when you fight
Know that my heartís with yours at the point of the sword
And all through the fight, know that you make my name shine bright
For you are my own perfect knight

How my heart took flight and soared on the field as you charged into the fray
When you broke the third round of the Lists you know that you made my day
Though itís just a step on the way
Now the struggles of the body were past but the heartaches were ahead
Then you learned that honor was hard to keep and so often you wound up dead
When youíd rather win instead [but]

     Chorus:
You have my faith, for you are my own trusted lord
     And when you fight
Know that my heartís with yours at the point of the sword
And all through the fight, know that you make my name shine bright
For you are my own perfect knight

Now you wear the belt and weight of the oath and the silverís in your hair
And your arm is strong as iron itself and the students are in your care
And your counsel is always fair
On that belt you wear a much-battered favor made long years ago
While you learned your craft, a token of love was the first thing I had to sew
For I just wanted you to know [that]

     Chorus:
You have my faith, for you are my own trusted lord
     And when you fight
Know that my heartís with yours at the point of the sword
And all through the fight, know that you make my name shine bright
For you are my own perfect knight
