Unsung Champions
by
Leah Raedaelf of Pagham
For June Crown, A.S. 38

We wait to make our challenges, to choose our first round fights,
And proudly stand before our Queen against the King's sworn knights.
And though our day may end before the Kingdom's throne is won-
We give our consorts' worth its due ‘til our last round is done.

We are the unsung champions
Each one by honor bound--
Who bravely fight and nobly die,
And are out at second round.

We are the first test you must pass if you would wear the Crown,
And if you do not meet us well, we'll gladly take you down.
To prove you're worthy of this Throne we test your might and skill,
Before we die upon your blade- the first friends you must kill.

We are the unsung champions
Each one by honor bound--
Who bravely fight and nobly die,
And are out at second round.

Then, with our challenge given out, we meet next on the field.
Each knowing how it's like to end, though neither'd wish to yield.
There'll come a day, perhaps for some, when vict'ry could be ours,
The time we'll give our consort's rose as wreath, not single flowers.

We are the unsung champions
Each one by honor bound--
Who bravely fight and nobly die,
And are out at second round.

Here’s to the unsung champions
Each one for honor bound--
Who bravely fight and nobly die,
And are out at second round.
