Queen's Fool
by
Leah Raedaelf of Pagham
May 12, AS XXXIX (2004)

Before Her Throne, the fool has come, to entertain his Queen;
His motley borne to gain a chance, a moment to be seen.
To show his own he loves Her still, in any way he may—
To see Her smile, from near at hand, the jester’s role he’ll play.

His tales recall the youth they shared, his wit for Her he wields,
With stories of a unicorn amidst the radish fields.
And for the King who holds Her hand, he weaves a tale once lost,
About the friendship that they knew, and what the Crown has cost.

Before Her Throne, the fool has come, to entertain his Queen;
His motley borne to gain a chance, a moment to be seen.
To show his own he loves Her still, in any way he may—
To see Her smile, from near at hand, the jester’s role he’ll play.
