Mists Coronet, October, AS XXXVIII (2003)

Boldly did Erik make his challenge to be Prince, and
Joyous was he to meet Sir Geoffrey’s best to prove his cause.
Over the dusty field they battled, but it was Erik’s doom they found.
Richard, the noble Viscount, rode out eagerly to face him next.
Never did he see the stroke that Erik dealt, but the
Sun no longer rode the sky for the unhorsed knight.
Still Erik battled on, seeking greater honor for his lady’s name,
Only to cross the path of Leif’s bright sword and there he fell--
Never again to rise, his day full worthy of bard’s acclaim.
