Alden's War Song
by
Leah Raedaelf of Pagham
For June Crown, A.S. 38

Ready your dragon ships for the next tide
We're off to serve Odin once more.
The arrow of iron has gone through our towns,
And we follow our King into war.

Sharpen your weapons and take up your shields
We sail on the tide 'cross the seas.
The lands that were ours once shall be ours again.
As we bring our old foes to their knees.

Yes, glory and honor and treasure await,
We sail on the fast-ebbing tide;
There’s lands to be held now by those who are bold,
Revenge for the ones who have died.

The revels of ours who may fall in this fray
Will make great Valhalla resound;
The Valkyries choose just the bravest in war,
It’s there all our dead shall be found.

Then under the bright stars we’ll gather again
To tell all the deeds of the day;
We’ll fill up the horn that we pass ‘round the fire,
And sing the night’s darkness away.

So sharpen your weapons and take up your shields
We sail on the tide 'cross the seas.
The lands that were ours once shall be ours again.
As we bring our old foes to their knees.

Yes, ready your dragon ships for the next tide
We're off to serve Odin once more.
The arrow of iron has gone through our towns,
And we follow our King into war.
