Reverie On A Knighting

by
Alison Gray of Owlwood
March 20, 2003 (A.S. XXXVII)

Young lord
Swift of sword arm
Well loved by those who well know him

Kind soul
Wise of spirit
Aged with honor, wisdom, and light

Long road
Journey well made
Lessons learned, regrets forgotten

Knights meet
He is ready
The offer made is accepted

Eve’s watch
Peers give counsel
The new day brings understanding

Kneels now
The court silent
Lady watching with tearful pride

Oath sworn
Fealty, service
Powerful words spoken in truth

Dub once
I dub thee twice
Sword gently heavy on his head

King’s hand
Accept no more
The blow echoes loud through the court

White belt
A heavy chain
Go now Sir knight and greet your peers

Bear hugs
Joyful tears flow
Herald reads the proclamation

Three cheers
But not an end
His journey has only begun
