Pelican Limerick: A Merciful Substitution

by
Aimeric de Foix
November, 2008 (A.S. XLIII)

The labors of good Hercules
Have been sung for full centuries
But what's the big deal?
Before even first meal
A Pel' could have done all of these!

"A bad case of writer's block for Bard's Choice [Pelican piece] resulted in nothing, except a *really* bad filk of Sammy Davis Jr's "Candyman". I informed Julianna [of Tregony] that I thought my selection was...a tad painful...and would prefer not to perform it. She suggested that I could try to come up with something else - think of it as "three words from a hat", where one of the words was Pelican. Thankfully, it worked. Whew. I can safely say that the entire hall dodged a bullet there. 'course, I found out later on that Flieg [Frederick of Holland] had (briefly) considered doing the exact same filk..." -- Aimeric de Foix
