I Think I'll Have A Drink

by
Aimeric de Foix
November, 2008 (A.S. XLIII)

Raise a cup to [the Might of] our Lord
I think I'll have a drink
For his [wise rule and his] skill with a Sword
I think I'll have a drink
Falalalalalala
I think I'll have a drink

Fill your glass to the Lady's Grace
I think I'll have a drink
For [her] inspiration [and] fairness of face
I think I'll have a drink
Falalalalal
I think I'll have a drink

[One more] for the steward of the fine, fine feast
I think I'll have a drink
No more [can I eat], I am full at least
I think I'll have a drink
Falalala
I think I'll have a drink

[For] the craftsman whose bowl I did use to sup
I think I'll have a drink
[And] one [for] who made so deep a cup
I think I'll have a drink
Falalalalalala
I think I'll have a drink

For the brewer who made so great a beer
I think I'll have a drink
[And] the [bar]maid who brought the ale right here
I think I'll have a drink
Falalalalalal [[slow down and run the fala's into drunken triplets here, staggering]]

[triplet and slow]
No thanks to the carpenter
Uneven's the floor
The crowd bars my way
I can't move the door
Why are my feet staggering
Is this not shore?
So to my knees I'll sink

[back to 4/4, but slowly]
The sun stabs my eyes
There are hammers in my head
I had too much to drink
Where I lie now
it seems not to be my bed
I had too much to drink
Owowowowoowowow
I had too much to drink

My wife will wonder
Where I've been all night
It hurts to even think
My coin purse is missing
there's a draft without my tights
It hurts to even think
ColdColdColdColdColdCold...
It hurts to even think

I seem to recall I insulted the king
There's sure to be a stink
I said that his codpiece was no big thing
There's sure to be a stink
From the hangmans noose I'm sure to swing
There's sure to be a stink
Helphelphelphelphelp...
There's sure to be a stink

My wife will scream like the harshest shrew
It hurts to even think
If I show up in court they will run me through
It hurts to even think
I'm no longer sure what I should do
Dodododododododododododododo...
I think I'll have a drink
